Change is mostly triggered by an encounter or a situation that led to a realization. But sometimes, change is triggered by a person. A person who made such a big influence in someone’s life. This probably happened to you at one point of your life; you met someone and this person’s words or actions made you realize some things , which eventually made you decide change. But is this change something better—or worse? It depends, right? Some people change out of negative emotions. Their decision to shift their outlook on something is being driven by hate, loneliness, pangs of guilt, or revenge. On the other hand, there are some people who change for the better. Their complete 180-degree turn was influenced by someone who’s produced a positive perception in life. Speaking of change, if there is one ultimate Person that Christians could point out when it comes to talks of transformation, it’s Jesus Christ.

Who Really is Jesus Christ?

Generally, most people know that he’s the guy who did many miracles, got betrayed by Judas, and eventually got crucified on the cross; then after dying, three days later, he rose from the dead. But that’s just about it. He’s so popular that he’s considered as one of the greatest influencers of the world. Many people are even making fun out of his name and putting him on Internet memes. Some believe that he’s a prophet and some think that he’s just a myth from an old book of tales called the Bible. While some, the believers, stand their ground into believing that he is a God. But who really is Jesus Christ?

Let us rely and dig deeper not into what people say about him. If there is one reliable source that people should stick to when it comes to facts about Jesus Christ, it is the Bible. Why? Because the Bible is not just a book, in it are sacred Words breathed out by God. It is a living Word. John 1:1 says, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.’ It doesn’t matter what anyone believes about him, because his authenticity is not dependent on what people declare or think. Whether you’re a Jew, an atheist, or a believer, the Bible is the same for all of us.  So, here are the top 5 facts about Jesus Christ:

Top 5 facts about Jesus Christ

#1: Jesus Christ is God

This is one of the greatest and most popular debates in history to date. Is Jesus God or just a man? Well, He is God. Remember how in John 1:1, it says that the Word is God?

John 1:14 says, ‘The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only. This clearly tells us that Jesus is the Word and God is Word, and He came down from Heaven to save the lost. The verse showed that there is a connection between God and Jesus Christ; that him and His Word are one, which only means one thing: Jesus is God.

John 8:58 also says, ‘I tell you the truth, Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’ This is another quote by Jesus Christ when the Jews at the time were persecuting and questioning him about his deity. He was simply stating that before all the known prophets were  born, he was there already, existing even before the creation of the earth.

Isaiah 9:6 says, ‘For unto us, a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’ Isaiah is a revered prophet in Jewish history. During his time, he prophesied many things, mostly about the coming of the Saviour and Son of Man who will bring salvation to the lost. This prophet was telling about the coming of Jesus Christ, a God who stepped down the Heavens to be with the mankind.

2 Peter 1:1 says, ’To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ’ He is not just a saviour, but He is God who has dominion over all things; a co-creator of life.

Lastly, John 10:30 says, ’I and the Father are One.’ This clearly states that Jesus and God the Father are equally one.

There are many supporting Bible verses that lead to the truth; that Jesus Christ is not just a man, but a God and his deity is 100% authentic in itself. No doubt.

#2: Jesus Christ is the Son of God

‘Ok, a few moments ago you told me Jesus Christ is God, now you’re telling me he is the Son of God?’ This is probably what you have in mind if you’re not a believer. For the record, yes, Jesus Christ is God—and yes, he is also the Son of God. So, how is that? This is a little complicated to explain, but may God open up your mind and give you Wisdom about this. So, here goes.

God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are One. They all belong to what Christians call the Trinity. Trinity is derived from a Latin word ‘Triad’. In Christian faith, God is Trinity, which means He has three personas; God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit—all of which are Divine Persons, but are equally one. In a lighter context, let us put it this way: John Smith has a wife, Mary Smith, and a son named Jonathan Smith. John is the father. Mary is the wife, a suitable helper. Jonathan is the son, the heir of everything John owns. All are completely different persons, but they are one as a family—they are Smiths. God the Father is the Ultimate Father, creator of all things. The Holy Spirit is the suitable Helper that Jesus Christ left on Earth when he ascended to Heaven. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the heir of everything that is God’s. However, the fact that Jesus is the Son of God doesn’t declass him into not being God, but he is equally God as well.

1Corinthians 15:28 says, ‘When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.’ This shows Jesus Christ’s relationship with God the Father, who is his Father. God’s dominion over everything is also for His Son, just like a father gives everything he owns to his heir.

Hebrews 1:5 also says, ‘For to which of the angels did He ever say, “YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU”? And again, “I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME”?’ This is another proof about Jesus Christ’s Sonship towards God the Father.

Matthew 3:17 says, ‘…and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”’ This is probably one of the strongest supporting verses about Jesus Christ’s Sonship, because the quote came from God the Father Himself; this happened when Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist, and a voice came from the Heavens saying these very words.

#3: Jesus Christ Beat Death

Some people believe that He died, but they don’t believe that He rose from the dead. When Jesus Christ got crucified on that cross, He bore the sins of all mankind. He offered himself as a living sacrifice, so that God’s wrath would fall upon him, instead of the people. He became our Mediator towards God the Father. He himself, who knew no sin became sin, just so anyone who believes in him will have an everlasting life. After his death, he was buried inside a tomb and on the third day, he rose again. This is a fact that’s impossible to comprehend, but with God’s power, his resurrection is nothing impossible.

When Jesus Christ rose from the dead, it meant victory for the believers—it meant that he did not only beat death, but he brought salvation to anyone who believes in him. He brought forth everlasting life to every hopeless generation. He himself knew what path he had to take to do his Father’s will; that He will be delivered to the hands of the Gentiles, be tortured, humiliated, and crucified to death. Well, the very sign that proves his victory over death is this: He rose again on the third day.

It’s the ultimate plan. Why? It’s how God loves the world so much, that He gave His one and only Son. So that whoever believes in Jesus Christ will not perish, but have an eternal life. This might sound too old for you, but salvation—it’s the very essence of it.

Matthew 24:1-8 says, ‘On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.’

#4: Jesus Christ is the Only Way to Salvation

Now, this is also one of the greatest debates the world ever has. First off, there is truly life after death. When a person dies physically, he leaves his body, his spirit will go back to where it came from (the Heavenly Father), and his soul will be judged. According to the Bible, when a soul is judged, either he goes to Heaven or Hell; and he will live there for eternity. Matthew 25:46 says, “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Hell is the fulfilment of God’s wrath. It is not scary because the demons are there, but it is scary because God’s wrath is there and it awaits those who lived a life without Jesus Christ in their lives. The Bible describes Hell as a furnace of fire (Matthew 13:42), where the maggots never die (Mark 9:48), and there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Luke 13:28).

While Heaven, on the other hand, is where God’s throne is. It is where God is. The Bible describes Heaven a place where there will be no sorrow anymore, no sin; a beautiful place where the saved ones will experience pure joy with the Lord forever.  (Revelation 21:4)

So, here’s the catch: how does one really get saved? Some people believe that for you to be saved, you need to do good works. While some believe that joining a religious group could earn them free passes to Heaven. What really is the truth about salvation?

The Bible says in John 14:6, the very words of Jesus Christ, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ This means exactly what it says. That one cannot come to God the Father if he does not have faith in Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says, ‘For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.’ See that? It means that good works cannot save a man. Salvation is a special gift from God. You cannot save yourself, only God can.

John 5:24 also says, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.’

Finally, Romans 10:9-10 says, ‘That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.’

What Should I Do to Get Saved?

Faith comes from hearing. If these words have spoken in your heart and you would like to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, here are the things that you have to do:

  1. Repent – Pray for forgiveness. Cry out to God and confess your sins unto Him.
  2. Accept Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Saviour – The Bible says that you cannot come to the Father except through him. Acknowledge your need for a Saviour and let his presence enter your heart. See him not only as your Saviour, but also as the Lord in ALL aspects of your life. Surrender your heart and soul to him and from this day on, rely on him alone.
  3. Have a Reformed Heart – Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, everyday will be a battle; a war between your flesh (ungodly desires) and God’s will. Walk your life with Jesus starting today.
  4. Read the Bible – Your body is not the only thing that needs nurturing—your soul and spirit needs to be fed too. Reading the Bible is one of the best ways to grow spiritually.
  5. Pray – A regular communication with God is a necessity to build an intimate relationship with Him, and praying is always the best way to nurture that. When you pray, you are also given the chance to listen to what His still, small voice tells you.

#5: Jesus Christ Will Return

This is a fact. Matthew 24:36 says, ‘”No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.’ However, for His believers, there will be signs that his coming is near.

Matthew 24:30-31 says, ‘”At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.’

Matthew 25:31-46 says, “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”’

These verses exactly tell how Jesus Christ’s second coming will be visual, audible, and universally public. All eyes will see him coming down from the Heavens with his legions of angels, and his glory will reach even the darkest corners of the earth. It might sound mythical to those who do not believe, but for those who choose to cling onto the truth, their names will be written in the Book of Life.

We hope that these facts have left an indent in your heart while you were reading. Jesus Christ is real; he is not just some comic character or a meme to laugh at. He is a God who is worthy of your praise. It is not easy to decide which way to go. But if you know the truth about your life, the real purpose of it, and how Jesus Christ plays a big role in it, you will put your faith on Him. No matter what people say.
